Dr. Serena Ma

Dr. Serena Ma is the owner and founded Serenity Natural Health in 2007. She considers herself a general practitioner, offering personal insights to issues such as stress, dermatology, gynecology, asthma/allergies, fertility, and pregnancy. She enjoys working with all her patients but is especially inspired by her cancer patients. She currently geeks out to the microbiome and talks about that with all of her patients.

Dr. Serena Ma loves her student-teacher roles. She attended Bastyr University, graduating with her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine (ND) and Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MSAOM) and received special training in oncology and dermatology. Before medical school, Dr. Serena attended Boston University and graduated pre-med with honors from Sargent College with a degree in Human Physiology. After college, she learned about Sleep Medicine and what effects the circadian rhythm, as a research assistant at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. She finds the human body and how it functions extraordinary, eagerly studying it for most of her life. Dr. Serena is a former professor of Biochemistry at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Nowadays in practice, she appreciates her doctor as teacher job by enthusiastically educating her patients about their health. She finds that she learns just as much from her patients.

Julia Smith, MD, PhD

Medicine was a natural career choice for me. As a student, I was always interested in science and literature, and I was drawn to working with people. I wanted to understand their personal stories, and apply scientific advances to improve their lives.

I specialize in cancer risk assessment, screening, and prevention for people who have an elevated risk of developing cancer. When this subspecialty was first emerging, I became involved because it seemed like the ideal way to combine my PhD work in cell biology and retroviral genetics with my clinical specialty of medical oncology.

I have been recognized by Castle Connolly’s “Top Doctors” series for the New York Metro Area and by SHAPE magazine as one of the “Women Who Have Shaped the World” in 2007. I am the recipient of a clinical research fellowship from the American Cancer Society and I was awarded the Ovarian Cancer Research Award by the Lynne Cohen Foundation, among other awards.
